Education Engineering Department, Ministry of Education Education Engineering Department under the ministry of Education is the prime department of constructing educational building in Bangladesh.Over about fifty years education engineering department (EED) had successfully set the trend and standard in the country's educational infrastructure development.It plays a vital role in the implementation educational construction works under the colse supervision of the ministry of education. As a single government department in educational buildings construction sector, Education Engineering Department is involved in Planning, Designing, Monitoring and Reporting of development works in Rural, Urban and Semi-urban areas, Construction/Reconstruction Development of Class Rooms, Laboratories, Libraries, Hostels, Repair and Renovation of Government and Non-Government Secondary Schools, Colleges, Teachers’ Training Colleges, Vocational Training Institutes, Polytechnic Institutes, College of Leather Technology, College of Textile Technology, Engineering Universities, National University, Text Book Board, Secondary and Higher Education Board etc. including supply of furniture. Besides, the Education Engineering Department is also involved in implementing special projects on turnkey basis such as construction of 14 storied building of National University at Gazipur, Kabi Nazrul University at Trisal, Mymensingh Projects of University Grant Commission like Comilla University etc. The success of Education Engineering Department is noteworthy and has set up an example in serving the national not only for construction/re-construction, repair and renovation and supply of furniture to educational institutions but also for the development of human resources. The Head Quarter of Education Engineering Department is situated at Shikkha Bhaban, Abdul Gani Road, Dhaka with one Chief Engineer, two Superintending Engineer and five nos. of Executive Engineers with a good number of supporting staff. There are 34-Zonal offices headed by 34-Executive Engineers, 1-Assistant Engineer at District level and 1-Sub-Assistant Engineer at each Upazilla with supporting staff. Breakup of Zonal Offices : 1. Kishoregonj Zone (Kishoregonj & Netrokona District), 6. Mymensingh Zone (Mymensingh & Sherpur District), 7. Tangail Zone (Tangail & Jamalpur District), 8. Faridpur Zone (Faridpur & Rajbari District), 9. Gopalgonj Zone (Gopalgonj & Narail District), 10. Madaripur Zone (Madaripur & Sariatpur District), 11. Rajshahi Zone (Rajshahi & Chapainababgonj District), 12. Nawgan Zone (Nawgan and Joipurhat District), 13. Bogra (Bogra & Sirajgonj District), 14. Pabna Zone (Pabna & Natore District), 15. Rangpur Zone (Rangpur & Gaibandha District), 16. Kurigram Zone (Kurigram & Lalmonirhat District), 17. Dinajpur Zone (Dinajpur & Nilfamari District), 18. Panchagar Zone (Panchagar & Thakurgaon District), 19. Khulna Zone (Khulna & Satkhira District), 20. Bahgerhat Zone (Bagerhat & Pirojpur District), 21. Jessore Zone (Jessore District), 22. Jhenidah Zone (Jhenidah & Magura District), 23. Kushtia Zone (Kushtia, Chuadanga & Maherpur District), 24. Barishal Zone (Barishal & Zalokathi District), 25. Patuakhali Zone (Patuakhali & Barguna District), 26. Bhola Zone (Bhola District), 27. Chittagong Zone (Chittagong District), 28. Noakhali Zone (Noakhali & Feni District), 29. Chandpur Zone (Chandpur & Laxmipur District), 30. Comilla Zone (Comilla & Chandpur District), 31. Cox’s Bazar Zone (Cox’s Bazar & Bandarban District), 32. Rangamati Zone (Rangamati & Khagrachari District), 33. Sylhet Zone (Sylhet & Sunamgonj District), 34. Moulvibazar Zone (Moulvibazar & Hobigonj District). Despite achieving success in implementation of the govt. policy regarding development of educational infrastructure the Education Engineering Department has long been suffering from the shortage of required number of personnel and lack of necessary logistic to carry forward its broadbased activities effectively around the country. We urge the government to look these problems and to take appropriate steps soon so that the Education Engineering Department can overcome all of its organisational impediments and can be able to implement the development activities speedily bringing revolution in constructing academic buildings throughout the country. |
